The ANU embraces new synthetic turf technology for Willows Oval.

In March 2010, HG Sports Turf completed the conversion of two natural turf fields to fourth generation synthetic grass at Willows Oval, ANU. The project was jointly funded by the ANU, SRA (Sport and Recreation Association) and the Federal Government.

The new artificial surface allowed the university to increase the capacity of usage from 500 hours to 2000 hours per year. A unique multi-sport project that combined the latest technology and innovation in synthetic turf and performance infill to achieve accreditation to sports governing body standards, including FIFA 2**, IATS, IRB, FIH, AFL and CA.

The installation of an underground attenuation tank system ensures that the university meet their environmental commitments with 15ML of water saved on irrigation and 5ML harvested annually from the new synthetic surface.
